Manning Bar to get poker machines?.

When VSU/OMSO (attack of the killer acronyms - voluntary student unionism/optional membership of student organisations) gets through Parliament later this year, USyd's iconic¹ Manning Bar may get the pokies and turnstiles installed at the doors to the Union's Manning House and the Holme and Wentworth Buildings to stop non-members entering.

That's what the strangely alluring University of Sydney Union Prez Sam Crosby told the Herald today (Pokies and cash turnstiles in uni union rescue plan, Sydney Morning Herald, March 21 2005). And gosh, I'd hate it to come to that (but then again, who wouldn't?)


Another thought, just on the side there: if the Union stuck turnstiles at Wentworth, non-members would have to use the traffic lights to cross the busy City Road and only members would continue to use the bridge. Here's an idea: follow the State Government's lead and slap a toll on it.
