Grace, Jeff Buckley.

Grace, Jeff Buckley
It could be that I'm just succumbing to the corporate consumerist machine. But I had this feeling that it was wrong, maybe even immoral owning an illegitimate copy* of Jeff Buckley's Grace. Down right sacrelige. So I scraped together several dollars and I finally purchased myself the genuine article.

It was Dave's list of the 30 best songs ever written on A Fulmination of Thought that sent me off on this little tangent and since then, Grace - first the bastard copy, and now the legit one - hasn't left my CD player (yes, I still own one of those). Jeff Buckley's voice is indeed absolutely amazing. And it's a crime against music and popular culture that he died when he did.

Last Goodbye, Lilac Wine and his cover of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah are just beautiful. This album is timeless, and it still sounds great eleven years on after its initial release in 1994.

*Not an admission of guilt. After all, I came good in the end. So ARIA can go stick that in their pipes and smoke it.
